Overview

"SpaceAware" is an innovative and exciting challenge aimed at students, inviting them to develop mobile applications that enhance awareness and understanding of space exploration, space mission phases, or a space-themed educational game.

This challenge encourages participants to leverage their creativity, technical skills, and passion for space to contribute to the popularization of space science and exploration.

"SpaceAware, Igniting Cosmic Curiosity." is a platform for aspiring developers and space enthusiasts to channel their creativity and technical skills toward a cause that promotes science, exploration, and education in an engaging and accessible manner.


App Categories

Participants can choose to develop mobile applications in one of the following categories:

  • Space Mission Guide: Create an app that guides users through the different phases of a space mission, from launch to landing. Include interactive simulations, real-time updates on ongoing missions, and in-depth information about each phase.
  • Space Adventure Game: Design an educational game that combines entertainment and learning. Players can embark on virtual space missions, solve challenges related to space science, and learn about the intricacies of space exploration.

Objectives

The challenge seeks to achieve several objectives:

  • Increase Space Literacy: Encourage participants to create educational tools that improve people's understanding of space, including topics like space missions, cosmic phenomena, and the importance of space exploration.
  • Engage the Audience: Develop mobile apps that are captivating and interactive, appealing to a wide range of audiences, including students, enthusiasts, and the general public.
  • Promote Creativity: Foster innovative thinking by challenging participants to present complex space-related concepts in accessible and engaging ways.
  • Raise Awareness: Enhance awareness about space missions, phases involved, and their significance in advancing scientific knowledge and human exploration.
  • Gamification of Learning: Encourage the development of space-themed games that entertain while also educating players about various aspects of space exploration.

Eligibility

  • Age: 16+
  • Nationality: open to all nationalities based in UAE.
  • Team members: 2 - 4 Members.

Evaluation Criteria

Educational Value:

  • How effectively does the app educate users about space exploration, mission phases, or space-related topics?
  • Does the app provide accurate and engaging educational content?

Engagement and User Experience (UX):

  • Is the app engaging and user-friendly?
  • Does it effectively captivate and maintain the user's interest in space exploration or related topics?

Innovative Concept:

  • Does the app offer a unique and innovative approach to teaching or promoting space-related knowledge?
  • Does it introduce novel concepts or features that make learning about space more exciting?

Content Quality:

  • Is the content presented in a clear and informative manner?
  • Are there multimedia elements (e.g., videos, animations, interactive simulations) that enhance the learning experience?

Entertainment Value:

  • If the app includes gamification or entertainment elements, how enjoyable is the user experience?
  • Does it strike a balance between education and entertainment?

Technical Execution:

  • Is the app well-designed and technically sound?
  • Does it load quickly, respond promptly, and run without frequent crashes or errors?

Originality and Creativity:

  • Is the app's concept and execution original and creative?
  • Does it demonstrate a fresh perspective on space exploration and education?

Market Potential and Impact:

  • Does the app have the potential to make a positive impact on space education or awareness?
  • Is there a plan for promoting and distributing the app to reach a wide audience?

Documentation and Code Quality:

  • Are the code and documentation well-structured and well-documented?
  • Is the code efficient and maintainable for future updates?

  • Follow the guidelines that will be shared with you via an email from Planet X team.
  • Submit your MVP and Final Report by 19th October 2023.
  • Planet X team evaluation and notification to the finalists will be announced by the end of October.
  • The selected teams will be invited to the final pitch at Planet X Challenge during the Dubai Air Show during the period of 13th to 17th November 2023 to a team of experts.
